Peyami Safa
Peyami Safa, born in Istanbul in 1899, left formal education early and began working at thirteen. A dedicated journalist from 1918 until his death in 1961 Safa gained widespread fame through his engaging novels, essays, and social commentaries, and he is renowned for his popular fiction as well as the iconic crime series Cingöz Recai, written under the pen name “Server Bedi.” Beyond his literary pursuits, he contributed significantly to Turkish culture as a teacher and grammar scholar, authoring textbooks on Turkish language and syntax. His literary legacy includes celebrated works such as Fatih-Harbiye, The Novel of a Doubt, Mademoiselle Noralia’s Armchair, We Are Alone, and We, the People. His enduring influence will be carried forward by the ongoing publications of THP.
